Teddy gives his new porch “two paws up!”

We have done multiple projects for clients on their same home or sometimes even another home they have moved to. This is the case of doing 2 projects on the same home but for two different clients.

Pet-friendly porchA deck with a wheelchair ramp was the original project in 1992. Flash forward to 2014, and we built this beautiful multi-season room atop the existing deck for the new homeowners.

This property is a traditional brick ranch in the Clemmons West neighborhood. It has a gorgeous backyard with lots of mature trees and landscaping. The couple is at a stage in their lives when they are spending more time at home and would like to take better advantage of the quiet, peaceful view that they have behind their home. They also wanted to create an area where their dog Teddy could alternate napping in the sun and watching the squirrels and other critters in the yard.

As we start to sketch out project ideas, we always look for existing features in the home that are especially attractive or useful and we integrate them into the design. In this case, there is a large, red brick fireplace that becomes a nice architectural feature in the house wall of this Eze-Breeze porch. The architecture of the home also allowed us to build the porch with an open gable roof which lets in so much light and contributes to a very open feel.

What really makes this porch pop are the Eze-Breeze vinyl windows. If you are not familiar with them, they are a little like the triple-sash windows that Thomas Jefferson designed for his famous home Monticello. The look like traditional floor-to-ceiling mullioned windows, but can collapse down to one-quarter size, leaving lots of screen and open air above. Eze-Breeze windows offer all the best features of both sunrooms and screen porches: cool breezes when you want them and protection from the elements when you don’t. Add a space heater during the winter and there are very few days a year you couldn’t enjoy a room like this. The beautiful flooring is also weather (and pet) resistant and easy to care for.
